The Karnataka High Court has begun hearing actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s bail plea in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case today. Darshan requested bail on health grounds, with his legal team saying he has severe back pain that may require surgical intervention.
Senior advocate CV Nagesh, representing Darshan, informed the court that the actor is suffering from L1 and L5 back pain, as diagnosed by doctors at VIMS Hospital in Bengaluru. The medical reports suggest that surgery might be necessary, prompting the bail plea on medical grounds.
The High Court has instructed jail authorities to submit a detailed medical report on Darshan’s health condition. Additionally, Special Public Prosecutor Prasanna Kumar has been asked to file objections to the bail plea. The next hearing is scheduled for October 28, where further deliberations are expected.
The case revolves around the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, whose body was discovered near the Sumanahalli Bridge in Bengaluru on June 9. Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan, was kidnapped and murdered after he allegedly sent derogatory messages to his friend Pavithra Gowda, on social media, which infuriated the actor.
The post-mortem report revealed multiple signs of torture, including bruises, a missing ear, and ruptured testicles. According to the report, Renukaswamy was attacked with wooden clubs and succumbed to “shock and haemorrhage as a result of multiple blunt injuries”.
Pictures taken by the crime branch team, accessed by India Today TV, showed extensive bruising across Renukaswamy’s body, particularly on his back, arms, and chest, indicating the brutal nature of the assault.
Darshan Thoogudeepa was arrested on June 11 for his alleged involvement in the case, along with his friend and actor Pavithra Gowda and 15 others.
